Ukraine; Life Under Attack

Basement Film's first documentary was broadcast on Channel 4 at 10pm on Monday 27th June 2022 and on PBS Frontline on August 2nd 2022. The film tells the story of the Battle for Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city, through the eyes of the civilians who lived through the blitz and the emergency workers tending to the constant attacks. 
Directed and shot in Ukraine by film-makers Mani Benchelah and Patrick Tombola, with the London edit directed by Teresa Smith and edited by Agnieszka Liggett. This co-production with Cate Blanchett's Dirty films is executive produced by Cate, Ed Watts and Ben de Pear, and will be shown in the US as a PBS Dateline film in August.

Ukraine; Life Under Attack won the Peabody in 2023, as well as the British Journalism Awards’ best Foreign Affairs Journalism.
