Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings

Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings was broadcast on Channel 4 at 11pm on Tuesday 5th September 2023 and is currently available on 4oD. A version for PBS Frontline is to follow before the end of the year. The film is an investigative documentary into the Sri Lankan Easter Bombings of April 2019, when 6 simultaneous suicide bombs across the country killed 269 people, including over 40 foreign nationals. Over a year in the making, the film presents allegations by high ranking whistle-blowers that the attacks were orchestrated by Military Intelligence officials loyal to Mahinda and Gotabaya Rajapaksa, two brothers who had ruled Sri Lanka from 2005 to 2015 and were out of government at the time of the attacks.

The film has already had a massive impact inside Sri Lanka; the Sri Lankan Government has announced a parliamentary committee to investigate the allegations, scheduled two days in parliament to discuss the films, and calls throughout Sri Lanka for an international investigation abound.

Directed and Produced by Thom Walker, Produced by Rob Macqueen, Executive Producers: Ben de Pear and “Chutta”, edited by Mel Quigley
